Ted Lasso keeps it simple and subtle. Without taking itself all too seriously and executing every cliché effortlessly and beautifully, it keeps you watching for the wholesome vibes. All aspects of the show play within a very common comfort zone: form an all too familiar soundtrack ranging from Queen to Blur to a whole lot of intertextuality -and homage to films and shows we all know. The show is very aware of its humble premise and wears it on its sleeve. The ensemble cast does a phenomenal job of portraying their kind and flawed characters and you cannot help but root for them and laugh at their humour… even if it might not necessarily be funny on paper.
As co-creator Jason Sudeikis puts it, it’s a series all about family, mentors and teammates and if you are looking for an easy watch that can warm your heart until it melts, give this a try!
I don’t care much for awards, but for those who do, it was nominated for 20 Emmys and won 7! No biggie.
